Tomlin Glass has been around for over 50 years, for most of those at their shop based in Hatfield Road in St Albans and for 3 years relocated to a commercial unit in Hatfield.
Over the last few years the business has been scaled down and Bob has been working on his own, allowing him to take it a bit easier and to concentrate more on specialising in making and repairing lead lights and stained glass windows, doors and panels. These days Bob works from a glass studio at home specialising in stained glass.
Tomlin Glass has come a long way since 1968 and Bob first started work there as a young "apprentice" glass cutter and glazier about 10 years later as a young man. Over the years, the business grew and evolved offering all types of glass services and during this time and since, Bob learned the art of making beautiful stained glass windows which remains his passion today.
Bob took over the company in 1988 with his father in law and with them both at the helm the business continued to grow into a well established and well known local family company offering a comprehensive list of glass services to many local businesses, individuals and the public sector and employing up to 10 employees at its peak.
As Bob has so often said "Tomlin Glass is a well oiled machine, it has provided a wonderful challenge and provided a living for myself and many employees over the years but the time has come for change and taking things easier". Bob is very excited about his new specialist glass studio as well as having more time to travel and enjoy his grandchildren.
